Saufley Field Multi-Use Business Campus
Saufley Field opened in 1940, commissioned as a Naval Auxiliary Air Station and was re-designated a Naval Air Station in 1968. It was decommissioned in 1976 and designated as an outlying landing field and reactivated in 1979 as a Naval Education and Training Program Development Center (NAVEDTRAPRODEVCEN) and as an outlying field for NAS Whiting Field pilot training. In 1996, Saufley Field became the Naval Education and Training Professional Development and Technology Center (NETPDTC), a major shore command. As the host of Saufley Field, NETPDTC supports 10 major Department of Defense (DoD) as well as Navy tenants and has a total base population in excess of 1,000. Saufley operates two active runways and has in excess of 34,425 SF of hangar space.
In 2008, the Navy entered into negotiations with dck International to form a partnership with an objective to successfully transform 104 acres of property at Saufley Field into a diversified, multi-use business campus through the creative adaptation and reuse of two sites. Driven and directed by market research & demand, Saufley Group, LLC is pursuing a marketing plan to complete this transformation. Site One contains 85.5 acres with 60 buildings (including 4 hangers) encompassing 622,000 SF of space and Site Two contains 18.7 acres that is currently used as a golf course. The total site also offers potential access to two 4,000 linear foot runways.
The historically stable Pensacola market requires an imaginative and flexible response to absorb this amount of space; Saufley Group LLC brings aggressive marketing and expertise in pursuit of relocating businesses supporting regional economic expansion in nearby Mobile, Alabama. The Saufley Group, LLC, collaborating with the Navy in this Enhanced Use Lease (EUL), will establish the Center for Innovation and Technology at Saufley Field as part of the targeted marketing program to attract not only DoD and Defense related businesses, but also establish a long term opportunity base for innovative technology business, bringing fair market value to the Navy facility through creative collaboration and reuse.
