Varona’s Restaurant
Due to growing access restrictions in airports, Mr. DeVarona (proprietor of Varona's Restaurant) recognized an opportunity to expand his restaurant operation at the Pensacola, FL Regional Airport, leasing a large space in the main terminal building. The project goal was to design an upscale dining facility that offered a variety of serving options with an adjoining bar.
Bullock Tice Associates envisioned a space that would incorporate highly textured materials of slate, wood and patterned glass; reflecting Mr. DeVarona’s Cuban heritage with bold artwork as a focal point. The space, while adjacent to the main terminal lobby, is different in materials, creating its own image as well as being different in theme from the smaller snack bar in the concourse area.
The design was presented to and approved by airport officials and city council members to confirm that this prime, visually important location in the airport would serve as a positive representation of the City of Pensacola and have the potential to be financially successful.
